RICHMOND -- A motorist suffered serious injuries after a suspected gunman opened fire on him late Sunday as he sat in a car a few blocks east of Lucas Park, police said.

The motorist, whose identity was not released, was shot twice but expected to live, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Officers were dispatched at 10 p.m. to the 800 block of 7th Street for a report of shots being fired.

The man told officers he was sitting in his car when a small, gray sedan pulled up beside him and a man inside the sedan began shooting towards him.

The motorist was struck once in the left arm and once in the left leg, Abetkov said.

He was transported to John Muir Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries, police said.

A detailed description of the shooter was not available.

No arrests have been made and no motive has been established in the shooting.
