Man arrested after chase, carjacking try
A 32-year-old Pacheco man was arrested Sunday after crashing his car on the wrong side of the freeway during a police chase, then trying to carjack drivers waiting on the offramp, police said.
Michael Finley was booked into San Mateo County jail for attempted carjacking and evading police after a pursuit in South San Francisco that stretched to the freeway from city streets, police said. Nobody was hurt.
Officers attempted to pull over Finley's green Honda Accord about 3:40 p.m. in the 800 block of Miller Avenue, but he took off through city streets, authorities said. He continued to drive the wrong way up the Grand Avenue offramp of Highway 101, where he crashed into another car before getting out and fleeing on foot.
Authorities said Finley then tried carjack three other cars sitting on the offramp, but South San Francisco officers and the California Highway Patrol caught up and arrested him.
