SAN JOSE -- A boy who was killed while trying to cross Highway 85 early Sunday has been identified as Kenneth R. Williams, 15, of San Jose.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Williams was hit around 4:15 a.m. by a BMW near the Snell Avenue overpass as he tried to walk from the right shoulder of the southbound lanes to the center divide.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 36-year-old woman who was driving the BMW stopped and cooperated with police.
Investigators are trying to determine why the boy was on the roadway. The CHP said that there did not appear to be a vehicle associated with Williams in the area.
