SAN JOSE -- Sheriff's deputies have arrested an 18-year-old man they say shot and wounded another person in the leg in an apparent gang-relating incident last weekend.
Michael Valadez was booked Monday into Santa Clara County main jail on charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an inhabited dwelling.
At 8:40 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to multiple calls that someone was shot in the driveway of a home in the 3100 block of East Hills Drive in unincorporated San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. They found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the leg.
The deputies got a description of the suspect and the car he drove, and identified him as Valadez. Monday, the sheriff's Special Operations Division and Emergency Response Team located and placed Valadez under surveillance. He was arrested that day without incident, according to the sheriff's office.
The victim was treated at a hospital and released, according to the sheriff's office.
"At this time, the shooting appears to be gang related," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
