MOUNTAIN VIEW -- An early-morning fire destroyed a single-story home here Sunday, the fire department reported.
Alerted by a passerby who noticed smoke, firefighters arrived on the 1700 block of Fordham Way, near Cuesta Drive, at 2:23 a.m., Jaime Garrett of the Mountain View Fire Department said. They called for reinforcements, from Palo Alto and Santa Clara County, shortly afterward.
The fire caused no injuries she said. No one was home at the time of the fire.
Part of the roof collapsed in the blaze, which destroyed much of the house. The fire was contained to the home and did not spread to other residences, Garrett said.
The fire was controlled in about 20 minutes, but mop-up continued for several hours. Crews boarded up doors and windows.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
