SAN JOSE -- A San Martin man was killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash near the southern edges of San Jose, authorities said.
Witnesses reported seeing a group of motorcyclists traveling on Monterey Highway near Bailey Avenue around 4 p.m. when one of the riders went down, said Officer Albert Morales, a spokesman for San Jose police.
A passer-by tried to revive the injured man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene about an hour later. He was identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office as 57-year-old Shannon James O'Keefe.
SJPD's Traffic Investigations Unit was summoned to investigate the fatal crash. Witnesses said O'Keefe and other motorcyclists appeared to be traveling within the speed limit, but further details were not immediately available.
