Paul Walker's mother has filed papers in a Los Angeles Court seeking legal guardianship of her late son's 15-year-old daughter, Meadow -- but reports say neither Meadow nor her mother are happy with the move.
ABC News reported that Cheryl Ann Walker has filed to "be appointed as the guardian of the person and estate of the minor." Meadow is the sole beneficiary of the late actor's estate, estimated to be worth $25 million. Walker died in a car crash in December.
Cheryl Ann Walker says in her papers that both Meadow and the teen's mother, Walker's ex-girlfriend Rebecca Jo Soteros, live with her. The papers claim Soteros has a drinking problem, which is one reason Cheryl Ann Walker is seeking custody. But E! News, quoting a family "insider," says both Meadow and Soteros were blindsided by the move.
"Everyone was taken by surprise," the source told E! News. "This has been hard on everyone close to them. (Meadow and her mom) didn't know. There have been discussions but no one told them they were going ahead with it. They first heard about it when they saw it on TMZ. They are very disgusted by this. It is such disregard for their feelings."
Meadow has reportedly lived with her grandmother since 2012, although E! News quoted another source as saying she has only stayed with Cheryl Ann Walker "on and off." The court filing also notes that Cheryl Ann Walker is a registered nurse who has raised four children of her own and is a "loving and responsible person."
