SOLANO COUNTY -- An Emeryville man was killed Friday morning in a crash north of Vallejo, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 65-year-old driver was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80, west of Lynch Canyon Road undercross in the No. 1 lane at about 65 mph. For unknown reasons, he abruptly braked and turned his vehicle to the left, causing it to drive up the raised embankment and overturn several times, CHP spokesman Officer Chris Parker said.
The vehicle rested on its right side in the center median, and even though the driver was wearing his seatbelt, he became unrestrained inside the car, and sustained fatal injuries, Parker said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, which was under investigation.
