HAYWARD -- The White House is honoring a veteran for her military service and entrepreneurship.

Graciela Tiscareno-Sato is one of 10 "Women Veteran Leader Champions of Change" who will be recognized Tuesday at a White House ceremony.

The Hayward businesswoman's education publishing company, Gracefully Global Group, focuses on stories of Latino innovators, scientists, entrepreneurs and members of the military.

"I'm overflowing with gratitude at being recognized by the White House for my military service and my dedication to creating unique literature that showcases Latino contributions," she said.

The daughter of immigrants attended UC Berkeley on an ROTC scholarship, graduating with a degree in environmental design and architecture.

She earned her master's degree in international business management while in the Air Force, where she received an Air Medal for combat operations over Iraq.

She won four international book awards for "Latinnovating: Green American Jobs and the Latinos Creating Them." She also has written "Good Night Captain Mama/Buenas Noches Capitan Mama," a bilingual children's book about women serving in the military.
