PHOENIX -- The final Cactus League game ever will be short of hitters but long on starting pitchers.

The A's will start Sonny Gray and the Angels will go with C.J. Wilson. When the season starts up, Gray will pitch the opener against the Indians and Wilson will pitch Game 2 against the Mariners.

Gray wasn't supposed to pitch in a minor league game because A's manager Bob Melvin didn't want to have him facing too many Angels regulars.

The Angels made that easy by not sending many of their regulars, and when Melvin saw that, he decided he'd like to see Gray pitch.

The A's, who are scheduled to fly to the Bay Area after the game with the Bay Bridge Series starting Thursday, also had a light lineup.

Longtime A's equipment manager, Steve Vucinich, who has been with the A's for the whole of their time at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, threw out the first pitch before what will be the final Cactus League game at Muni.

The stadium becomes the home of Arizona State baseball next year with the A's moving to Mesa's HoHoKam Park.
