OAKLAND -- A 67-year-old man was taken to a hospital after he was hit by a police car Monday afternoon while in a crosswalk outside police headquarters, authorities said.

Police said the man, whose name was not released, complained of pain after being struck about 12:05 p.m.

He was being evaluated at a hospital.

Police said the man, who uses a cane, was walking eastbound on Seventh Street crossing Broadway and was just a few steps off a center median when he was hit by a patrol car turning northbound on Broadway from Seventh Street. Police said the patrol car was going very slowly when it struck the man. The officer driving the car was not hurt.
