OAKLAND -- A 17-year-old boy fatally shot Monday morning was identified by police Tuesday as Willie D. Gilbert, of Oakland.
No arrests have been made in the case and no motive has been released by investigators.
Gilbert died at Highland Hospital, Oakland, shortly after he was brought there about 12:15 a.m. Monday by someone who said he found him on a street near the hospital, which is at 1411 East 31st St.
Police have not determined if Gilbert, who lived in West Oakland, was shot where he was found or somewhere else.
Investigators are still looking for a possible link between Gilbert's death and the shooting of a 22-year-old Oakland man who drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg shortly after Gilbert was brought there.
The 22-year-old man told police he had been shot while driving in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 between Lakeshore Avenue and Park Boulevard.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the gunman in Gilbert's killing. Anyone with information may call Officer Leo Sanchez at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
