A 51-year-old man was booked into jail early Saturday on suspicion of raping a woman he had promised to help get a job at a Sausalito restaurant.
Diego Chan Rodriguez, an Oakland resident, was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending further review by the district attorney's office.
The alleged crime was reported at about 11:45 p.m. Friday when the woman called from Poggio Trattoria, a restaurant at 777 Bridgeway, She said she had locked herself in a bathroom stall and her attacker was trying to get in, Sausalito police said.
The woman said a man had been in contact with her over the past several weeks, saying he might be able to get her a job at a local restaurant, and she agreed to meet him Friday night in Sausalito.
The man bought her several drinks and then asked her to walk with him to Gabrielson Park, which is on the waterfront next to Spinnaker Drive.
The woman said he sexually assaulted her in the park, and afterward they walked to Poggio, where she fled to call police.
Police identified the suspect as Rodriguez and arrested him at the police station.
Police are trying to identify a potential witness who was walking her dog in Gabrielson Park at the time and carrying a flashlight. Anyone with information can call the Sausalito Police Department at 289-4170.
