SAN JOSE -- A security guard with Valley Medical Center has been arrested on child molestation charges and is being held in jail without bail, sheriff's officials said Monday.
Derrick J. Hammond, who is employed by Santa Clara County as a protective services officer, was arrested March 19 after a sheriff's investigation. He faces 10 counts of child molestation and at least one count related to child pornography, said sheriff's Sgt. Andrea Urena.
Urena said his victims are now adults but were minors at the time of the alleged offenses. She declined to comment further on the relationship between Hammond and the victims, and said investigators are looking for further evidence of child pornography.
"We're still analyzing computer tech evidence," she said, adding that they don't believe there are additional victims who have not come forward.
Hammond's next court date is May 16, at which time he is scheduled to enter a plea.
County personnel documents show Hammond, 39, was reprimanded for poor performance at work at the Sunnyvale VMC clinic in 2010. He "spent an inordinate amount of time, during the work day, in the break room using his personal laptop computer," documents say, and he "failed to maintain an appropriate security presence while assigned to the Sunnyvale clinic."
