BERKELEY -- U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi will deliver the 2014 UC Berkeley commencement address, the school announced Wednesday.
Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco for more than 26 years, in 2007 became the first woman to serve as House speaker.
The campus commencement is on May 17 in Memorial Stadium.
The ceremony also will feature an address by Chancellor Nicholas Dirks, his first as chancellor.
"We are honored to welcome Nancy Pelosi to deliver the keynote address at our 2014 commencement," Dirks said in the campus announcement. "Leader Pelosi's groundbreaking career represents the very best in public service for our state, our country and the world. Our graduates will benefit greatly from her experience and wisdom as they set out to make their mark on the world."
In recent years, entrepreneurs and technologists have addressed Cal's graduates. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak spoke at last year's commencement.
