OAKLAND -- A man shot multiple times on a West Oakland street Wednesday managed to stumble inside a corner market but later died, police said.
The 20-year-old was shot about 9 a.m. on the 1000 block of Willow Street, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.
The man, who lived in West Oakland, collapsed inside nearby Sharif Market after the shooting as first responders rushed to the scene, police said. He was later pronounced dead at an Oakland hospital.
The man was the sole victim in the shooting, and his name was being withheld until his family is notified.
Police were interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance videos from the area, but a motive for the killing was not yet known. No arrests had been made.
A call to the market late Wednesday morning went unanswered. The store, on the corner of Willow and 11th streets, is surrounded by homes and is the only business at that intersection.
The killing is Oakland's 27th homicide in 2014.
