No charges have been filed against linebacker Aldon Smith of the 49ers, but the nature of Smith's alleged bomb threat at Los Angeles International Airport became more clear Monday.
LAX Police Sgt. Karla Ortiz told CSN Bay Area that Smith was going through a random second screening when he asked the TSA agent, "Are you going to search me further?"
"That's not necessary," Smith was told, according to Ortiz.
Smith's response, according to Ortiz: "Why not? I have a bomb."
Ortiz also told CSN Bay Area that the case had been forwarded to the Los Angeles Police Department's Criminal Conspiracy Unit. When the investigation is complete, it will be sent to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. Formal charges will be assessed from there.
