OAKLAND -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver who then fled the scene Saturday morning in North Oakland, police said.

The unidentified man, who appeared to be in his late 60s, was hit around 7:35 a.m. on the 5000 block of Telegraph Avenue in the Temescal District. The driver who hit the man briefly got out of his car to check on the pedestrian before he got back in and drove off, police said. It is unclear if the man, who was thrown roughly 50 feet when he was hit, was in a crosswalk.

The pedestrian, who police said lives in the area, was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have little information on the suspect or the suspect's car, other than they are looking for either a white Audi or Infiniti SUV.

Up to $10,000 in reward money is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the driver. Those with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8570.
