OAKLAND -- Police are calling an Oakland woman lucky to have survived after being shot in the upper chest as she walked to a store Saturday morning.

The woman was just left her apartment and was walking to the store in the 700 block of Adeline Street, when she was shot once on the right side of her chest, according to Oakland police officer K. Quintela.

The victim fell to the ground and was taken by family to a nearby hospital. She was listed in stable condition.

"The gunshot missed all the major organs," Quintela said. "She's incredibly lucky."

No suspect information was available Saturday.
