OAKLAND - A suspected robber armed with what turned out to be a pellet gun was shot by an East Oakland liquor store clerk Saturday night, police said.
The suspect, a 19-year-old Oakland man, will recover, police said.
His name was not released. He was in stable condition Sunday at a hospital.
The shooting happened about 11:06 p.m. Saturday at Harry's Drive In Liquors, 9002 MacArthur Blvd. where three employees were working.
Officer Omar Daza-Quiroz said the robber, who was holding the pistol in his hand and wearing a mask over his face and a hooded sweatshirt, entered, jumped over a counter and put the gun to one employee's head demanding money from a register.
He then took a cell phone from another employee and money from a second register, police said.
As he was leaving the store one of the employees shot him in the buttocks, police said.
The suspect was able to run for a few blocks before police found him in the area of 90th Avenue and Palmera Court.
The gun and the money and cell phone taken were recovered.
Police believe the suspect might be responsible for other robberies.
