MORGAN HILL -- The Bicycling Magazine Spring Classic will make its debut May 9-10 in Morgan Hill to coincide with the start of the ninth annual Amgen Tour of California.

The Spring Classic, sponsored by Morgan Hill-based Specialized bicycles, features rides of 90 miles, 60 miles and 25 miles to accommodate all levels of participants. Mountain bikers Ned Overend and Rebecca Rusch, and rising road race star Tayler Wiles of Fairfax will appear in a VIP ride on May 9.

The rides begin and end at Specialized's headquarters at 15130 Concord Circle in Morgan Hill. Portions of the routes follow former courses of the Tour of California, which begins May 11 in Sacramento and ends a week later in Thousand Oaks. The prestigious race comes to the Bay Area on May 13 with a mountainous "Queens Stage" from east San Jose to atop Mount Diablo.
