SAN CARLOS -- Authorities are searching for three armed suspects they say robbed a Trader Joe's store at gunpoint Wednesday night in San Carlos.

Sheriff's deputies responded about 9:30 p.m. to reports the Trader Joe's at 1492 El Camino Real had been held up at gunpoint, San Mateo County sheriff's Spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said. The store had just closed for the evening when three armed suspects made their way in through an unsecured exit door.

All three suspects pulled silver automatic handguns on employees and shouted expletives demanding cash, Rosenblatt said. They made off with several thousand dollars, and were last seen running north in the store parking lot toward Belmont Avenue.

No customers remained in the store at the time of the robbery, and none of the four employees still there was hurt, Rosenblatt said.

The suspects are described as males in their 20s or 30s, all wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants, gloves and dark bandannas across their face. Anyone with information about the suspects or the robbery is asked to contact Detective Hector Acosta at 650-363-4064 or hacosta@smcgov.org, or the Anonymous Tip Line at 1-800-547-2700.
