OAKLAND -- Five people were arrested Monday night on suspicion of robbing a man at gunpoint of several hundred dollars in East Oakland, police said Tuesday.
The cash taken from the man and the gun police believe was used in the robbery were recovered.
The 56-year-old victim was robbed about 10:44 p.m. Monday as he walked in the 1400 block of 25th Avenue by a man with a gun. The suspect fled in van that had four other people inside. The victim was not hurt.
The victim got the license plate of the van, which was stopped by officers a short time later in the 9600 block of Plymouth Street with the five still inside.
The cash and a gun were found in the van, police said.
Among those arrested were a 20-year-old man suspected of being the man with the gun, two other men ages 18 and 20, and two women, 19 and 25.
They were being interviewed by investigators Tuesday morning. Police are trying to determine if they could be responsible for other robberies.
