OAKLAND -- A shooting in the Laurel district of East Oakland Tuesday night left two men wounded, police said Wednesday.

But investigators have not yet determined if the men, who knew one other, shot each other or were shot by someone else. No motive has been established and no arrests have been made.

Both victims were in stable condition Wednesday and it is expected they will recover from their wounds.

The shooting happened about 9:25 p.m. in the 3700 block of 39th Avenue.

Police said an 18-year-old man was wounded in the chest and back and got a ride from someone to a hospital.

Another 18-year-old man was hit in the buttocks and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Their names were not released. Police said they lived in the area and hung out at the site where the shooting happened.

A pistol was recovered at the scene, but it has not been determined who it belongs to, police said.
