OAKLAND -- A 26-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a fight with another man in the heart of downtown, police said Friday.

Darrel Hughes, who had addresses in Oakland and Manteca, died Monday afternoon, the day after he was found unconscious by passers-by outside a building at 140 Frank Ogawa Plaza.

An autopsy performed Thursday determined he died from injuries suffered in a fight, police said.

Officer Leo Sanchez said Hughes got into a fight with another man about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at 14th Street and Broadway, outside the Walgreens drugstore. The fight continued across the street to where he was found. The other man fled.

Sanchez said police don't have a motive yet for the altercation and no arrests have been made. Police believe the fight was witnessed by some people who left before talking to officers.

Police would like to talk to them or any other witnesses. Up to $10,000 in reward money is being offered by police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland for information leading to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.

The death is Oakland's 30th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 35 homicides in the city.
