ALAMEDA -- The Raiders selected Western Kentucky safety Jonathan Dowling with their last scheduled pick of the 2014 NFL draft, No. 247 overall.
Dowling was the third pick of the seventh round, following Ohio University and De La Salle High cornerback and punt return T.J. Carrie and Illinois State defensive end Shelby Harris.
Dowling, 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, was an All-Sun Belt selection with 10 pass breakups and five interceptions. Dowling began his career at Florida, where he was dismissed from the team in 2010 by coach Urban Meyer in 2010 for a violation of team rules.
The Raiders are thin at safety behind starter free safety Tyvon Branch and free safety Charles Woodson. Dowling was drafted with the pick the Raiders received in exchange for quarterback Terrelle Pryor.
