PACIFICA -- Police have released a sketch of a man they say approached a young girl in Pacifica on Friday and asked her to get in his van after school.

The 10-year-old girl was waiting for a ride home about 1 p.m. across the street from Ocean Shore School when a stranger pulled up in a white delivery-type van and offered her a ride home from the intersection of Johnson and Nelson avenues, Pacifica police Capt. Joe Spanheimer said. The man kept encouraging her to climb in, and the girl ran scared back onto school property.

The van drove away in an unknown direction, and the girl was soon picked up by a family member, Spanheimer said. The family reported the incident to Pacifica police, who drafted a composite sketch of the man in the van.
