OAKLAND -- A man shot and killed his brother after getting into an argument Tuesday night, according to Oakland police.

Police said the victim was shot on the 900 block of Aileen Street in north Oakland shortly before 7 p.m. It is not known what prompted the fight.

After the two brothers argued, one of them left, but soon returned with a shotgun. A struggle ensued, during which one of the men was shot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An Oakland police captain tweeted that investigators had a suspect in custody, but did not identify either the suspect or the victim.

The shooting was Oakland's 35th homicide this year.
