It's that time again.
Fifteen-second television and radio commercials with ominous voices and misleading or outright false information. Glossy mailers juxtaposing a smiling candidate with a family picture against an evil opponent with a grainy mug shot who committed every malfeasance imaginable. And, of course, those lists of candidate recommendations hung on your doorknob by groups purporting to represent your point of view that actually sold positions on their "slate cards" to the highest bidders.
Tens of millions of dollars are being spent by candidates and special interests to sway your vote. With political careers at stake, truth matters little. Our advice: Ignore the onslaught of misinformation. Do your own homework if you can.
We have recommendations, arrived at through our own independent research and candidate interviews. We don't expect you to necessarily agree with them, but we hope you'll find our explanations helpful. You'll find the link to our list at the top of our endorsement page, insidebayarea.com/endorsements. For key races, you can also watch our interviews with the candidates.
Meanwhile, for those with mail-in ballots who have yet to send them in, best now to take them to a local polling location on Tuesday to ensure they arrive before the firm 8 p.m. deadline. For those who prefer the confines of a voting booth, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. For questions in Contra Costa, call 925-335-7800 or go to www.cocovote.us. In Alameda County, 510-267-8683 or www.acgov.org/rov.
