OAKLAND -- Jonathan Mayer will be the new principal at Claremont Middle School. He replaces co-principals, and identical twins, Reginald and Ronald Richardson who are off to San Leandro High School as co-principals after two years at Claremont.
For nine years, Mayer worked as the principal of Chabot Elementary, which feeds into Claremont. He studied at UC Berkeley for his undergraduate and his master's in education. Before becoming a teacher, he worked as a community organizer for seven years. He has also worked in Richmond and Berkeley at elementary schools and a middle school.
So the public can get to know Mayer and to welcome him, the Oakland Unified School District is hosting a Meet and Greet on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
In a letter to Claremont community, Mayer said that his first priority is to get to know the school.
"Over the next few months, I will be listening to find out what each of you think about Claremont and get ideas of what we can build on and where I can provide support on key challenges," he wrote.
He said that he would like to focus on the current vision at Claremont then over time, implement his own to create a new shared vision.
