Stanford's slugging third baseman Alex Blandino was taken with the No. 29 overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round of Thursday's Major League Baseball.

The Reds announced the 6-foot, 190-pound St. Francis High-Mountain View product as a shortstop although he's the starting third baseman for the Cardinal, whose season continues this weekend in the NCAA Super Regionals.

Blandino leads Stanford with 12 home runs this season and has a .312 batting average with 42 RBIs. He was originally selected three years ago out of high school in the 38th round by the A's before choosing to attend Stanford.
