REDWOOD CITY -- A 53-year-old man was arrested on murder charges Monday evening after authorities said he killed a man during a fight in unincorporated Redwood City.
Paul Ahern was booked into jail on suspicion of killing a 46-year-old Redwood City man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family. It was not immediately known what prompted the fight between the men, who were seen drinking together shortly before the altercation.
Sheriff's deputies responded about 8:15 p.m. to reports men were fighting outside a beauty salon in the 3100 block of Middlefield Road, San Mateo County sheriff's office spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said. Authorities arrived and found a man lying motionless on the ground and Ahern standing nearby.
Deputies attempted to perform CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
