Shades of Gray benefit Saturday at arts center

The band Shades of Gray will perform a benefit concert for the Piedmont Center for the Arts, 801 Magnolia Ave., Piedmont, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Band members are Scott Corvin on drums; Tyler Johnston on trombone; Joe Evinger, guitar, Gray Cathrall, piano; Tom Gregory bass and vocalist Marina Zubareva. Special guest performers will be Eric Oto, tenor sax and JR Witt on alto sax.

Enjoy music, dancing and drinks in a cabaret setting at the Piedmont Center for the Arts. Admission is $15; drinks are $5 each with a full bar. RSVP by calling 510-421-1773.

Five teachers certified by national committee

Five Piedmont teachers have completed the exhaustive two-year study and requirements to become certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Superintendent Connie Hubbard has announced.

The teachers are Gillian Bailey, Piedmont High art; Marna Chamberlain, Piedmont High science; Courtney Goen, Piedmont High social studies; Elise Marks, Piedmont/Millennium High English; and Susan Stutzman, Piedmont High teacher/librarian.

The nonprofit board seeks to elevate the status, voice and role of accomplished teachers through setting high standards, raising public awareness and recognizing accomplished teaching.

Choir offers music class for infants and toddlers

Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir is offering a musical beginnings class for infants and toddlers this fall, taught at Piedmont Center for the Arts for 12 weeks.

The class will be taught by choir kinder department Director Kate Offer. In the 50-minute classes, child and parent will enjoy a range of activities from tapping and clapping to bounces, wiggles to lullabies.

Studies have found music stimulates brain connections and encourages creativity.

Transportation panel seeks a Piedmonter

The Alameda County Transportation Commission is seeking a Piedmont volunteer to serve on the Paratransit Advisory Planning Committee. Interested residents must be users of public transportation services available in the county for seniors and disabled persons.

LWV invites all residents to become members

The League of Women Voters of Piedmont invites all residents to join the League, a nonpartisan political organization that encourages active and informed participation in government.
