OAKLAND -- Police have increased officer patrols over the weekend due to a slew of citywide events, a police spokeswoman said.

"The increased staffing is for a number of reasons including Father's Day, graduations, A's games and other events in the city," police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

Police would not say how many extra officers will patrol the streets this weekend, but did call the amount significant.

"If we know we're going to have a very busy weekend we certainly will increase staffing," Watson said. "Public safety is our main priority and we want to make sure everyone has a safe weekend and enjoys their weekend."
