Piedmont Pony Express 9, Pirates 0: Eden Loren and Lauren Jull led the Pony Express with four shutout innings in the 9-0 semifinal victory over the Pirates. The Express came alive after two sparkling defensive plays by Morgan Hunt and Margaret Weaver. The Pirates mowed down the first five Pony Express batters, and then the offense came alive. Weaver hit a solo home run, Hedy Friedman followed with a double, and Leah Bell and Hanna Ward both hit triples into the gap to power the offense. Hailey Ronen, Eve Tellegen, and Hunt scored runs and chipped in with singles.
Piedmont Pony Express 9, Piedmont Panthers 5: Pony Express' pitchers struck out six Panthers and were backed by a sparkling defensive effort. Lauren Jull, Shelby Cavenaugh, and Margaret Weaver led the Pony defense and combined for nine outs in the five inning contest. Starting pitcher Eden Loren held down the potent Panther offense before Lauren Jull shut the door with three scoreless innings, scattering two hits and a walk between six strikeouts. Gracie Hall, Jull, and Hanna Ward went a combined 7 for 8 and scored six runs as they set the table for the Pony Express' sluggers. Hedy Friedman, Jayanti Singla, and Hall drove in runs, but the close game was broken open in the third inning, when Morgan Hunt sent a fastball over the center field fence for a three-run home run. The Purple Panthers were led by Phoebe Church, Quinn Reilly and Ginger Gardner, who each went 2 for 3 to pace the offense. Julia Banuelos, Julia Caputo, Gretchen Gerhardy and Anna Gotto also contributed hits. Pitchers Gardner, Reilly and Gerhardy combined for 10 strikeouts in four innings pitched but the defense was not able to contain the Pony Express offense.
