SAN BRUNO -- Police released surveillance video Thursday of a suspect trying to rob a San Bruno jewelry store by threatening to blow it up with a bomb.

San Bruno officers responded about 3:38 p.m. to reports of an armed robbery at Roop Kala Jewelers at 631 San Mateo Avenue, Sgt. Ryan Johansen said. The suspect reportedly threatened the clerk by saying he had an explosive, then stated he would detonate the bomb if the clerk didn't hand over jewelry.

The surveillance video shows the suspect explaining his demands to the employee behind the counter, then unzipping his sweatshirt to display the alleged explosive device. The clerk told the man that police were on their way, and the suspect ran northbound on Masson Avenue without taking any jewelry.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned man in his 20s, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall with a normal build and a thin, dark mustache. He was wearing a black hoodie, a black cap and black gauges in his ears.

Anyone with information about the suspect's identity is asked to contact San Bruno police at 650-616-7100. Information can also be submitted anonymously at sbpdtipline@sanbruno.ca.gov.
