PACIFICA -- A 33-year-old woman was critically injured late Saturday when she was hit by a suspected DUI driver on San Pedro Avenue.

The victim stepped into the street about 11:15 p.m. and was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound just north of the San Pedro shopping center, Pacifica police Sgt. Joe Spanheimer said. The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Robert Walton, of Montara, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and taken to San Mateo County Jail. It was not immediately known if the victim was in a crosswalk when she stepped into the roadway.
