FREMONT -- A gas leak shut down the area of Landing Parkway between Fremont Boulevard and Warren Avenue mid-Tuesday afternoon for a short period.
Officers were dispatched at 1:36 p.m. to that area in the city's East Industrial neighborhood and when they arrived, the fire department was already there investigating the leak, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.
The leak was caused by a private contractor striking and rupturing an 1 1/2-inch natural gas line, Fremont fire Capt. Diane Hendry said.
Police and fire crews shut down the area until about 3 p.m. so PG&E crews could clamp the pipe.
No one was injured.
