OAKLAND -- Two men were shot 2 ½ hours apart, more than a mile from each¿ other, in West Oakland on Sunday night, police said.

Both men are expected to recover and police don't believe at this time the shootings are related. The victims' names were not released.

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, a 24-year-old man said he was shot by another man in the 1100 block of Chester Street not far from the West Oakland BART station.

The man, who got a ride to a hospital from a friend, didn't know why the man shot him. The gunman fled on foot after the shooting. The victim was in stable condition.

At 5:02 p.m. a 24-year-old man was shot in the 2100 block of Linden Street. He told police he was walking when he heard gunfire and realized he had been wounded. He got his own transportation to a hospital and was in stable condition.

No motive was released and no suspects have been arrested.
