SUNNYVALE -- A woman remained in critical condition Monday after her car flipped and landed in a ditch Sunday morning, authorities said.

Around 10:58 a.m., Sunnyvale police and firefighters responded to Central Expressway and San Bernardino Way for a report of a solo-vehicle crash, said Sunnyvale Capt. Jeffrey Plecque.

Plecque said an off-duty Sunnyvale officer saw the woman's car crash at the dead end of West Arques Avenue, travel through the air and then land in a 25-feet deep ditch.

The woman, who had to be extricated from her car, suffered major injuries and remains in critical condition at Stanford Medical Center, according to Plecque. The woman has not been identified.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Investigator Rudy Ramirez at 408-730-7109.
