OAKLAND -- A man was shot and killed in East Oakland Saturday morning, police said.

The man, whose name and age have not yet been released, was found by a passer-by on High Street near Lyon Avenue around 10:20 a.m. The motorist picked up the wounded man and attempted to drive him to a hospital, but stopped in the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard where help was summoned, police said.

The man was pronounced dead there minutes later by emergency responders, according to police.

Police released no motive nor information on possible suspects on Saturday.

The killing comes on the heels of a busy July 4 for the Oakland Police Department, which put an additional 115 officers on the streets overnight to help quell celebratory gunfire and illegal fireworks, according to a department news release.

Police arrested 14 people on a variety of charges and issued 114 citations for fireworks-related crimes. A 19-year-old man was killed and his 23-year-old half-brother severely injured when power lines fell to the street on 89th Avenue late Friday. A Pacific Gas & Electric spokeswoman said the 12,000 volt lines came down after being struck by gunfire.
