SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants spent the majority of the season's first half saying there was no timetable for Marco Scutaro's return. On Wednesday, manager Bruce Bochy finally set a date. Scutaro is scheduled to play nine innings for the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday, and barring a setback he will return to the big leagues on Friday.
Scutaro has missed the entire season with a lower back strain, but he is expected to be in the second spot of the Giants lineup on Friday or Saturday. The second baseman is 3 for 19 during a rehab assignment, but Bochy doesn't think he needs many more at-bats, or to show success at the plate.
"He feels pretty comfortable. Looking at the reports, his swing is free and easy," Bochy said. "That's what's important to us. He's got the kind of stroke that I don't think needs a lot of at-bats."
