SAN FRANCISCO -- A's third baseman Josh Donaldson will join teammate and defending champion Yoenis Cespedes in the All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday at Minnesota's Target Field.
Donaldson learned he had been selected by captain Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays as the last member of the American League home run team.
"Just another thing to worry about," said manager Bob Melvin. "You've got an All-Star break, and then you have to sit there and grind on a home run derby. But I hope they enjoy it and come back in one piece."
Said Donaldson, "Jose Bautista sent me a text that it was official and I said, 'Yeah, I definitely want to do this.' It's going to be pretty cool.
"I like to hit homers in batting practice, so I look at it as another round of BP with a lot more people watching."
