WATSONVILLE -- A 22-year-old Pajaro man was hospitalized after he ran around naked and allegedly broke windows and assaulted a Watsonville police officer during a drug induced episode Friday night, Watsonville police said.

About 11:10 p.m., police received a report of a man attempting to enter a home on the 300 block of East Fifth Street, Sgt. Michael Ridgway said. Residents of the home said the man broke windows and other callers in the area reported him jumping on top of parked vehicles and hitting them with his hands.

When officers arrived, they found Ramiro Mora hiding behind a parked SUV on East Fifth Street. They recognized Mora's behavior as someone experiencing excited delirium type symptoms, which could be fatal if not treated, Ridgway said. The symptoms likely came from use of a stimulant drug, Ridgway said.

When they tried to speak with Mora, he attacked the officers, striking one of them on the head, Ridgway said. Officers used a stun gun to incapacitate and capture Mora, who struggled and yelled as officers tried to hold him to the ground.

His clothing and identification were found in a nearby garage shortly after the incident, Ridgway said.

Mora was transported to Watsonville Community Hospital for minor injuries and to be monitored for what appeared to be a narcotic-induced reaction. At the hospital, Mora became unruly, prompting hospital officials to call police to assist, Ridgway said.

Because Mora is hospitalized and is receiving treatment, he cannot be arrested, Ridgway said. But officers will submit a report to the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office and seek a warrant for Mora's arrest for suspicion of trespassing, vandalism, resisting arrest and assault on an officer.
