SANTA CLARA -- A man who crashed his car and died may have suffered a medical issue Thursday while he was driving northbound on Interstate 280, the California Highway Patrol said.

Around 4:39 p.m., CHP officers responded to reports of a solo vehicle crash near the Lawrence Expressway offramp. When they arrived, they found a man inside a white truck, unconscious and unresponsive.

He was declared dead at the scene, according to the CHP, and his identity has not been released.

CHP officers said the man was traveling in the number three lane, heading northbound, when he suddenly swerved into the left then swerved back across three lanes of traffic before brushing up against a sound wall.

His truck came to a rest along the shoulder, and no other cars were hit.

The truck driver was the only person in the car. The CHP said he may have suffered from a medical condition, but his cause of death would be determined by the Santa Clara County Coroner.

Traffic was slightly delayed while crews cleared the scene.
