Apparently, it's unwise to mess with Tim McGraw's jeans.

The singer came under fire Friday morning when video from a concert last weekend revealed he slapped a female fan.

The video, released by TMZ, shows McGraw streaming into the crowd via a catwalk during his Atlanta concert July 13 while he performed "Truck Yeah." McGraw's progress is then abruptly stopped by the female fan, prompting him to reach into the crowd to swat her. Security personnel is then seen swarming her.

The singer's rep points to the video as evidence that McGraw was just protecting himself. "At the end of the night during the encore, Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn't let go as he was moving through the crowd," the rep told Billboard. "He instinctively swatted to try and keep them from ripping his jeans (which they succeeded at doing), and so he could get to more fans who were trying to slap hands with him before the end of the show. He didn't know who had grabbed him and was trying to keep his pants from being torn."

Actually, trying to keep his pants from being torn more. The video also shows the singer had holes in the knees of his jeans before the fan latched onto him.
