HAYWARD -- A boy is in critical condition after he was shot in the head in Hayward on Sunday evening, police said.

Authorities were called to Del Norte Court and Oliver Drive at 8:56 p.m. on a report of a shooting, said Sgt. Ryan Cantrell. There, officers found the boy unresponsive and with a gunshot wound to the head, Cantrell said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. His name and his age were not released. No arrests have been made and police have not released information about suspects or whether they think the boy was targeted or struck by a stray bullet.
