SAN LEANDRO -- A 40-year-old San Leandro woman who allegedly crashed a pickup truck into a liquor store in the Washington Manor neighborhood Tuesday night has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

No one was injured inside House of Liquors at 1167 Manor Blvd. during the crash, but the arrested woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Lt. Robert McManus said.

The woman, whose name was being withheld by police pending the results of toxicology tests, walked into the store about 9:30 p.m. She reportedly purchased something, left the store and got into her pickup, McManus said.

A store clerk told police he heard an engine revving and the next thing he knew, the vehicle had crashed into the building.

Officers found the woman, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, standing outside the truck holding car keys, McManus said. Witnesses identified her as the truck's driver, according to police.

The woman was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for complaints of pain, cited and then released on a notice to appear in court. Toxicology results were pending Wednesday.

City officials posted warnings on the business, declaring the building unstable because it sustained major damage, McManus said. A temporary post was put into place by Alameda County firefighters to support the building's roof.

The building had to be shored up because of its instability, fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
