Jeremy Lin is going to back to the jersey number that brought on Linsanity.

Lin will wear No. 17 with the Lakers, the club announced Thursday in a post on its Twitter account.

It was No. 17 that Lin wore in his breakout season with the New York Knicks. In the lockout shortened 2011-12 season, he went from relative unknown to phenom. Once he became a starter, Lin averaged 18.2 points and 7.7 assists and shooting 44.5 percent from the field, CBSSports.com recalled.

Before being dealt this offseason by the Houston Rockets, Lin wore No. 7. Before that trade, and while the Rockets unsuccessfully pursued free agent Carmelo Anthony, the Rockets showed videoboard images of Anthony in a No. 7 jersey that still belonged to Lin, on the day Anthony visited with team officials.
