PALO ALTO -- Stanford University is getting three significant collections of American art.
The university said Thursday the collections given to the Cantor Arts Center include Andy Warhol's archive of photo contact sheets, notebook sketches by Richard Diebenkorn and works of art by Jacob Lawrence.
The Diebenkorn sketches -- which span his career and have never been shown or studied -- are included in 26 notebooks donated by the artist's widow. The Warhol photographs, taken from 1976 until the artist's death in 1987, document the pop artist's daily life and include of the celebrities and artists of the era.
The drawings and paintings by Lawrence, one of the leading black artists of the 20th century, were donated by supporters of the Cantor Arts Center.
